The
Victorian Sprintcar Title is one of the
events that Grant ‘The Gun’ Anderson dearly
wants to win and last Saturday night at
Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway he fell narrowly
short of this goal when he finished in second
place on the podium.
With
his dad, David, a former multiple winner
of the Victorian Title, ‘The Gun’ last Saturday
night qualified on pole position for the
feature race and led the opening 10 laps
before he lost command to Stephen Bell in
lapped traffic. Despite a late fight back,
‘The Gun’ fell short of snatching back the
lead and finished in second, which added
to his third place podium finish back in
2007.
“I
was running the top part of the track early
on in the feature race and Belly [Stephen
Bell] had the bottom working really well
and in lapped traffic he managed to get
by me,” explained ‘The Gun’. “Soon after
I moved down to the bottom and towards the
end I had caught up to Belly but in the
end I didn’t have enough for him to get
the lead back. It’s disappointing to miss
out on the win, as the Victorian Title is
one event that I really want to win and
I also want to be the first father and son
duo to win the event.”

‘The
Gun’, who drove the family owned VIC # 37
Wagga Mobile Cranes supported Foster, was
strong all night and qualified for the feature
race on pole position as the highest point
scorer after he qualified third in time
trials and then won his opening heat race
and finished fifth in the other.
This
Saturday night (March 20) ‘The Gun’ will
head across to Heartland Raceway (Moama,
NSW) for the 11th and penultimate round
of the SRA Eureka Series.
