A
third place finish during the annual Kings
Challenge last Friday night at Borderline
Speedway (Mt. Gambier, SA) for Grant ‘The
Gun’ Anderson and the Horrell Motorsport
team was to date their strongest performance
of the 09/10 season.
The
podium finish at the Kings Challenge was
certainly a welcomed result for Anderson
and the Horrell Motorsport team after they
have struggled throughout the majority of
this current season.
“To
finally to finish on the podium was not
only a great relief but also a big confidence
boost for the whole team,” Anderson expressed,
who had earlier in the night at the Kings
Challenge qualified 16th in time trials,
then finished fourth and second in his two
heat races and started the feature race
out of position seven. “Throughout this
season we’ve been right up there in the
mix but just haven’t been able to break
through for a podium finish.”
After
a strong performance at the Kings Challenge
Anderson and the Horrell Motorsport then
headed to the Grand Annual Classic at Warrnambool’s
Premier Speedway and it was one of mixed
fortunes. Anderson qualified inside the
Top 10 in qualifying and then finished his
opening heat race in second place. In his
second heat his Grand Annual Classic campaign
came undone after he was caught up in someone
else’s crash and it brought his night to
a premature end. Anderson returned for the
second night of the Grand Annual Classic
and finished both of his remaining heat
races in fourth place. Anderson started
from the second row in the C-main and picked
up the win. Starting from the back of the
B-main Anderson worked his way up to eighth
place.

“We
dropped one heat race and that ruined what
shaped up to be one of our strongest ever
Grand Annual Classic campaigns,” commented
Anderson. “In hindsight had we not been
crashed out of our second heat race on the
opening night we probably would’ve been
right up there in Top 10 contention and
when you look through the class of the field
that is certainly not a bad result.”
Last
Tuesday night (January 26) Anderson returned
to Premier Speedway for the 12th round of
the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship
and unfortunately he was unable to advance
directly through to the feature race despite
finishing with a second place and a win
in his two heat races.
“Since
we didn’t time trial too good due to being
one of the first cars out on a heavy track
it made our night quite hard,” he explained.
“We finished our two heat races strongly
and started in the middle of the pack in
the B-main and with so many good cars ahead
of me it was always going to be difficult
to move into a Top 4 transfer and we finished
back in seventh place.”
Anderson
and the Horrell Motorsport are not going
to be contesting the final leg of the WSS
Championship over in Western Australia,
so their next appearance is going to be
up in Queensland on Saturday night, February
13 at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway for the
annual ‘Crispy Memorial’ event.
