The
new combination of Grant Anderson and Queensland
based car owner Dave Horrell last Saturday
night at Brisbane International Speedway
(BIS) recorded a finish that was well beyond
their expectations heading into the opening
World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship.
Finishing
one spot shy of the podium, fourth, in the
WSS opener was a result that Anderson claimed
had certainly exceeded their own expectations
and gives the team plenty of momentum to
build on for the remaining rounds of the
WSS Championship.
“For
most of the feature race we were in with
a good shot at finishing on the podium but
it was the amount of stoppages ended up
killing us in the end as it didn’t allow
us to get into any sort of rhythm,” Anderson
explained. “We didn’t encounter any lapped
traffic as the stoppages gave the leaders
plenty of clear air. In hindsight it would
have been interesting if we did get a bit
of lapped traffic.”
In
the days leading up to the WSS Championship
the Horrell Motorsport team burnt the midnight
oil to get the QLD # 83 Wagga Mobile Cranes
/ East Coast Logistics supported Eagle ready
for BIS on Saturday night and Anderson was
very pleased to reward their efforts with
a strong result.
“With
this deal coming together quite quickly
there has been a lot of effort that has
gone into our team getting out on the track,”
said Anderson. “Everyone has put in a lot
of time and effort and it’s great that we‘ve
made such a strong to our WSS Championship
campaign, as it certainly makes all the
hard work worthwhile.”

Anderson
was strong throughout the WSS Championship
opener after he had qualified fifth in time
trials and then placed seventh and fourth.
Heading into the ‘Dash’ shootout Anderson
was the seventh highest point scorer and
in the ‘knockout’ time trial format he showed
plenty of speed to work his way up to fourth
and that was where he started the feature
race.
After
the opening round, Anderson sits fourth
in the overall WSS Championship point standings.
The
WSS Championship this Saturday night (November
28) now heads to Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway
in Queensland where the second round is
to be fought out.
