Doing
it the hard way has been something that
Grant Anderson has had to do on a number
of occasions so far this season. This most
recent occasion was last Saturday night’s
12th round of the World Series Sprintcars
Championship at Attwell Park Speedway in
Western Australia, after he had charged
his way from the back of the field to finish
in a hard charging sixth place.
After
time trialling in the middle of the field
at the beginning of the night, Anderson
crashed out on the first lap of his opening
heat due to spinning out all by himself
and involving a number of other innocent
competitors in the process, which was something
that he most disappointed about. After repairing
the damage from the earlier crash, Anderson
bounced back in the best possible way to
romp to the win in his second heat race.
Due
to failing to finish his opening heat race,
the VIC# 37 Wagga Mobile Cranes & Heavy
Haulage / Centastate Civil Contracting supported
Foster driver was forced to qualify for
the feature race through the B-main. After
starting from position four in B-main, he
managed to move forward and was one of six
feature race transfees via a third place
finish.
Although
his feature race start from position 17
wasn’t too alarming, which pretty much summed
up his opening 20 laps, Anderson moved into
the top 10 by the 20th lap and from there
he came home with a wet sail, passing some
of the country’s best drivers, to greet
the chequered flag in a gallant sixth place.

“We
finished very strongly, and it was just
a shame that we didn’t get going earlier,”
admitted Anderson, who now sits 11th in
the current World Series point standings.
“It’s an encouraging result for the whole
team, as they have been working so hard
and it’s great to be able to bring home
a result like this.”
Two
nights earlier at Kalgoorlie International
Speedway for the 11th round of World Series,
Anderson had to qualify for the feature
race via the B-main, but in the feature
race he was unable to reach the finish after
retiring on the 15th lap while sitting 14th.
The
Anderson Motorsport team is now preparing
for Wednesday night’s (February 8) 13th
round of World Series at Manjimup Speedway,
and then travel to Bunbury City Speedway
for the 14th and penultimate round on Friday
and Saturday night (February 10 and 11).
