A
podium finish in his opening race meeting
of the 2009/10 season, the Sprintcar Jackpot
Invitational last Saturday night (October
10) at Avalon Raceway (Geelong, VIC), has
been a promising start for Grant Anderson.
After
travelling up to Tyrepower Parramatta City
Raceway the previous weekend only to have
it cancelled due to the wet weather; Anderson,
aboard his VIC # 37 Wagga Mobile Cranes
& Heavy Haulage supported Foster, made
his season debut at the Sprintcar Jackpot
Invitational event.
The
night for Anderson didn’t start in the best
of fashion as he had a bad marble draw for
the 20 lap qualifying heat race and ended
up finishing back in eighth which placed
him into the last chance qualifier where
he ended up finishing in second. Then a
seventh place semi final finish after he
had charged his way up from position 16
resulted in him taking part in the top 10
time trial where a blinder lap earned him
the third fastest lap and therefore an inside
second row starting spot for the 10 lap
feature race which paid a handsome $10,000
to the winner. Anderson worked his way into
third early on after a few laps battling
with Ian Loudoun and that was where he stayed
all the way through to the fall of the chequered
flag.

“It
was certainly a unique format but one that
I wouldn’t like to do every race meeting.
I liked the way the format allowed me to
fight my way forward after a bad heat race
result and to end up third in the feature
race by the end of the night is quite a
satisfying result,” a content Anderson said,
who pocketed $3,000 for his third place
efforts. “Due to having to go through the
non qualifiers I was able to get plenty
of track time and I think that the amount
of laps that I did, nearly 70, was close
to the equivalent of two normal race meetings,
so it was a good first hit out for the season.”
The
next event for Anderson is set to be this
Saturday night (October 17) at Tyrepower
Parramatta City Raceway for the Brian Healey
Cup.
